educating their son, and went bankrupt when living in Haukijärvi.

In 1905, they bought the former shoemaker's cabin in Töllinmäki, a village in
Heinijärvi. In Töllinmäki, Sillanpää spent his youth and wrote his first novel. The
parents lived in Töllinmäki until F.E. Sillanpää’s father named Pransu died in
1921. After that, the cabin was sold by auction and mother Miina moved in
with her son's family to Saavutus.

Töllinmäki is open in the summer season from june 23 to August 11, on

Kyröskoski

Kyröskoski is one of Finland's most impressive rapids with its 22-meter drop.
Kyröskoski is considered to be the Hämeen Hälläpyörä, one of the three great
rapids mentioned in the Kalevala, which is an epic poem compiled from Finnish
folk lore in the 19th century. Around the power plant’s pool, Hälläpuisto Park has
been built. Industrialization at the rapids began in the 1860s, and today, the area
is home to the Metsä Board Kyro paper mill, which operates on energy produced
by a bio-power plant completed in 2012.

Throughout its history, Kyröskoski has also fascinated artists, writers, and
explorers. Every year, spectacular rapids shows are held on the 1st of May,
Midsummer Day, some Saturdays in July, and during the Landefest event in
August. Guided tours are available for groups by reservation.

Timi’s pine

Timi's pine tree is possibly the oldest pine tree in Pirkanmaa. Based on
drilling, it is about 400 years old. Timi's pine probably served as a
sacred tree for the ancient Finns. It is known that Timi’s pine was
believed to help with toothache.

The gum of the sore tooth was dug with a stick until blood started to
flow. After that, the stick was hit on the pine stem, giving strength to
the pine tree and taking the toothache away. It is said that bear skulls
and multi-colored ribbons were also found on its branches, which
suggests sacrifice.
